This page describes what NigeriaBase actually does with information. It is short because the site does very little.

What is collected

Messages you send us. If you use the contact and corrections form, we store what you type: the type of message, your message itself, the page it concerns, and your name and email address if you choose to give them. Name and email are optional — a correction sent anonymously is still read and still acted on. We also store a one-way fingerprint derived from your network address, which cannot be turned back into an address and exists only to stop one sender flooding the form.

Basic traffic measurement. Aggregate counts of which pages are viewed, roughly where in the world visitors come from, and which links they followed to get here. This is used to decide what to write next and to find broken pages.

What is not collected

There are no public user accounts on this site, so there is nothing to sign up for and no profile attached to you. We do not sell, rent or share data with advertisers or data brokers. We do not track you across other websites, and there is no advertising network embedded in these pages.

Cookies

The public pages of NigeriaBase do not set advertising or tracking cookies. Cookies are used only where the site cannot function without them — for the editorial team's sign-in on the administration area, which is not accessible to the public.

How long messages are kept

Form submissions are kept while they are being reviewed and for as long as they remain useful as a record of why a page was changed — in practice, up to two years. Messages that are dealt with and hold nothing worth keeping are deleted sooner. Only the small editorial team can read them; they are not visible to anyone else, and they are never published.

Entries link out to official sources, institutions and reference works. Once you follow a link you are on someone else's site, under their privacy practices, not ours.

Your data, your requests

If you have written to us and want to know what we hold, want it corrected, or want it deleted, ask and it will be done. Use the contact form and say what you are asking for; if you wrote anonymously, include enough detail for us to find the message.

Changes

If this page changes in a way that matters, the change will be visible here. The date the page was last updated is shown on the page itself.
